Kate Nash helping young girls realise their music potential

Singer-songwriter Kate Nash is doing her bit to support young girls realise their dreams through music.
Kate Nash helping out girls
Kate Nash is looking to do her bit for the next generation of aspiring female musicians by running what has been dubbed a rock 'n' roll school club.

Writing in a special blog post for Collapse Board, the singer-songwriter explained she was on a mission to get school girls to seriously consider taking up the musical baton because she feels females are underrepresented.

"I interviewed each girl on camera about why they felt there were these giant gaps in the industry and why girls weren't making their own music as much as boys," she wrote.

"The answers were at times heartbreaking, when I asked a girl with a cute floppy fringe why she thought she couldn't write her own music or play gigs, she answered, looking down and hiding in said fringe, 'Because you have to be beautiful, not ugly'."

She explained that a lot of these insecurities were as a result of the distorting powers of the media and a British culture which is obsessed with celebrity, reality TV, crap singing contests, gossip magazines, comedians that bully and shock and TV presenters that try and embarrass the person they are interviewing".

Nash revealed that she has been working with a number of schools over the last ten months, using her contacts and fellow musicians to help out.ADNFCR-2133-ID-801241440-ADNFCR Posted on 16 Dec 2011 15:21 to category : Band / Celebrity News
