Jordin Sparks' dance reluctance
Posted on 22 Jul 2010 16:30 to category : Music News

Jordin Sparks was reluctant to branch out into the dance music genre.
The 'No Air' hitmaker - who shot to fame after winning reality television show 'American Idol' in 2007 - revealed while she hadn't ever wanted to make a club track, she really enjoyed recording recent single 'S.O.S (Let the Music Play)'.
She said: "It wasn't something that I had always wanted to do, but I'm definitely very open minded and I'm open to trying new things. A dance song, I had never really done before. And so I wanted to try that out and see how it went.
"It was definitely something new for me, and I was like, 'OK, let's see what happens', and it was so fun to make the video as well because that was also something different that I had never done either. So it was a whole new experience the whole way around."
While she was unsure about trying dance music, the 20-year-old singer-and-songwriter admitted she knew "automatically" that 2009 hit 'Battlefield' would be the lead single from her second album.
She told Beatweek magazine: "There are some songs that you feel automatically. For me, I heard 'Battlefield' and I knew it was different than anything else that I have recorded so far. We kind of all collectively were like, 'Yeah, this is the song, this is the single.'
"I was hoping that it would be the hit that we all thought it was. There's never a surefire method, I guess, to know what's gonna be a hit and what isn't."
