Jonny Wilkinson: Guitarists should practise a few basic chords
Posted on 4 Feb 2011 16:32 to category : Tips and advice

Acoustic guitar players looking to enhance their basic skills should find a song they like and learn a few basic chords to play along to the music.
That is the advice of rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson, who spoke to the Guardian about his love of the stringed instrument.
Offering advice to beginners, he said: "From a learning point of view the key for me is to get yourself inspired to keep going."
Finding a few chords that are easy to play and then discovering what songs they are used in is a good way to gain motivation and a desire to enhance a repertoire.
Wilkinson added this is "a lot more fun" that just doing drills and scales that are meaningless.
The rugby star - who was part of England's Rugby World Cup-winning squad in 2003 - might consider expanding his musical instrument collection, as he explained he used to play the piano but has not been able to move one with him to his current location in France.
Digital or electric pianos might be an option worth considering if he wants something a little more portable.
