Johnny Marr calms storm over use of Smiths track
The Smiths' Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want is being used by a big department store in its Christmas adverts, which has outraged many of the band's diehard fans.
However, Johnny Marr has spoke out about its use in the advert.
He said: "Please Please one Friday in 84 is one of the best memories of my life. This ad has not sullied that memory one bit."
Marr has been busy this year making a lot of music and seeking out new projects. Not long ago he was involved in remastering The Smiths' back catalogue of albums.
He recently suggested that he has been getting back in touch with his former Smiths bandmates, Morrissey and Andy Rourke.
With a spate of bands from the past reuniting, fans are hopeful The Smiths get back together again.
From The Stone Roses and Black Sabbath, 2011 has been a year of reunions.
The Smiths were formed in Manchester in 1982. Their most successful and popular album was The Queen Is Dead.
