An electric guitar player from Salem, New Hampshire, is urging thieves to return his beloved musical instruments which were stolen from him while he was on tour in Japan and Europe.

Johnny A as he is known, a renowned electric guitar player, returned home from his three-week tour to find that three of his favourite electric guitars had been stolen, reported the Eagle-Tribune.

He said: "I want to make it difficult for anybody to fence these. It's me being proactive. ... Someone knows someone who did it, someone's going to talk, it will eventually get back to the people who took them."

Johnny A, who has played with music luminaries such as Les Paul, BB King and Jeff Beck, as well as working as musical director for Peter Wolf, told the news provider that two of the stolen guitars are unique.

One is a 1967 Gibson EB-2 bass guitar with a "rare burgundy finish" and the other is a Gibson Montana custom advanced jumbo acoustic guitar with a "sunburst finish", which is one of 40 ever produced.

The star is using his fame and the world wide web to spread the message about his guitars.

His first solo album Sometime Tuesday Morning was released in 1999.
