John Mayer praises electric guitar visionary Buddy Guy
Posted on 25 Jan 2010 18:30 to category : Instruments News

Electric guitar player John Mayer has revealed one of his inspirations blues artist Buddy Guy.
Speaking to the Observer, Mayer said that he believed Guy had a massive influence on the world of music inventing the guitar solo and paving the way for legendary artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
Mayer explained that electric guitar player Guy was working at a time when blues songs lasted for a standard two-and-a-half minutes.
"He broke out of that and made the lead electric guitar more than a slight interlude in the song," Mayer explained.
"Buddy paved the way for Hendrix to play these nine-minute solos."
Mayer added that he is privileged to be friends with Guy, who is now 73 years old, and added that the "wow factor" never leaves him when he meets up with the elder man.
A recent gig by Mayer in London received praise from the Daily Mirror, which said the American's performance contained "pure guitar brilliance".
