John Lennon statue to be installed in Liverpool

A statue of legendary guitar player John Lennon is to be installed in Liverpool later this year.
The design for the sculpture has been unveiled in Shanghai at Liverpool's World Expo pavilion, with the work scheduled to be completed in time for the son of the Beatles star, Julian Lennon, to unveil it in October.
Its installation will be a part of a two-month festival commemorating the guitar player, which is to be held in the city to coincide with what would have been Lennon's 70th birthday.
Lauren Voiers, the American artist who has designed the sculpture, told the Liverpool Daily Post: "On a personal note, my passion is art but I also love music and I wanted to reflect this in the monument.
"Both art and music are universal languages."
Earlier this year, Liverpool's lord mayor Mike Storey told BBC News that the tribute season - which is to run between October 9th and December 9th 2010 - will be a chance to celebrate Lennon's contribution to the city.
