John Lennon 'made the Epiphone Casino famous'
Posted on 15th Apr 2010 10:22 to category Music News
John Lennon was the man who ensured the Epiphone Casino guitar will always have an important place in the history of rock 'n' roll music, a music journalist has said.
Writing on the Gibson website, Ted Drozdowski, the former editor of Musician magazine, stated that Paul McCartney was actually the first member of The Beatles to own an Epiphone Casino guitar back in 1964.
"Both Lennon and [George] Harrison were hooked on the Casino after getting an earful of the crisp tones and bristling sustain produced by McCartney," he said.
Lennon was so impressed he became a "champion" of the Epiphone Casino, using it on every Beatles album that followed, as well as on some of his early solo work.
The musical legacy of Lennon is to be celebrated later this year through a season of cultural events taking in place in Liverpool.
Special performances of music, films and poetry will be held between October 9th and December 9th 2010.
