John Legend working with The Roots on new covers album
Posted on 12 May 2010 19:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Piano player John Legend has been working on a new record with The Roots.
He originally collaborated with the band on a cover of Arcade Fire song Wake Up, leading to all the artists deciding to work together again.
While the covers album they have come up is to be entitled Wake Up, it is not going to feature the Arcade Fire tune.
Instead, Legend and The Roots have opted to put their own take on songs of the 1960s and 1970s, such as Nina Simone's I Wish I Knew How it Would Feel to be Free.
Other tracks include Donny Hathaway's Little Ghetto Boy and Roberta Flack's Compared to What.
Legend told Rolling Stone magazine: "Everything is certainly inspired by the original but we took our own creative license with it."
The album is said to be 90 per cent finished and is due out in September.
Legend is one of the acts booked for the celebratory concert ahead of football World Cup in South Africa next month.
The piano player will appear along with acts such as Alicia Keys and Black Eyed Peas in Johannesburg on June 10th.
