Joe Perry hails Hendrix as guitar hero
Posted on 18th Nov 2009 11:03 to category Band / Celebrity News
Aerosmith's electric guitar player Joe Perry has described Jimi Hendrix as one of the best guitarists in history.
Speaking to PopMatters, Perry said he considers Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience to be the greatest record of all time.
The 1967 release was the band's debut album and features many enduring Hendrix classics, including Manic Depression, Foxy Lady and Red House.
Perry said he rates the title track particularly highly.
"It summarises everything that Jimi did inventively on guitar, in his songwriting and in his creativity," he commented.
Perry said no other musician has "come close" to matching the innovation featured on the record.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience went on to release two more studio albums - Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland.
Hendrix, who is widely regarded as the one of the most influential electric guitarists of all time, died in 1970, but his sister Janie recently revealed that lots of unheard tracks are still in the vaults and will eventually be released.
