Joe Perry: Sometimes the key to the guitar is what you don't play
Posted on 1 May 2010 10:00 to category : Instruments News

Aerosmith star Joe Perry has advised guitar players that the best musicians are able to judge what can be left out when performing.
Perry told Guitar World that his favourite guitar player of all time is AC/DC's Angus Young, because of the way his solos "had a purpose".
"It's about listening to the music as a whole and then doing what you need to do," Perry explained.
"Sometimes it's not even what you play; it's what you don't play."
He said Young is an excellent example of this philosophy, thanks to his ability to judge what each song calls for.
Perry added that the first time he saw Young play live was when AC/DC were the support act for Aerosmith at a series of shows in the 1970s, where he was left amazed by the guitar player's energy.
Young has also been praised in the past by musical instrument manufacturer Gibson, which has brought out an Angus Young SGguitar in his honour.
