Jimmy Page 'loves Gibson Les Paul guitars'
In a post on the Gibson Lifestyle blog by columnist Ted Drozdowski, it was explained that Page purchased a Sunburst '59 Gibson Les Paul Standard in the late 1960s to add to his already extensive collection of guitars.
He went on to fall in love with the instrument, nicknaming it "Number One" and referring to it as his "wife" because of its irreplaceable qualities.
The instrument is still in Page's possession, but he also got hold of a second Les Paul Standard after the making of Led Zeppelin II, which he went on to call "Number Two".
Mr Drozdowski gave a rundown of the top ten Led Zeppelin tracks which showcase Page's skills on the electric guitar, naming Dazed and Confused as the best song for this.
"With its brain-searing heavy riff and modal guts, this tune quickly became a springboard for all kinds of improvisational expansion on stage," he said.
Last year, Page launched a new set of British stamps featuring classic album covers from the past four decades, including the one for Led Zeppelin IV.
