Jimi Hendrix 'took rock music into uncharted territories'
Jimi Hendrix's mastery of the electric guitar helped to take rock music into a new direction.
This is according to Gibson contributor Andrew Vaughan, who said Hendrix is a worthy entrant into the manufacturer's newly-formed Revolutionary Hall of Fame, which honours artists who helped music to evolve.
He said the star had managed to establish the rock blueprint for all the electric guitar players who followed him thanks to his distinctive style.
Vaughan explained: "He played louder than anyone but with more control and more invention."
The commentator added he was a big fan of the wah-wah pedal and also made excellent use of the latest guitar amps available to him.
He added that while Hendrix only managed to produce three albums during the short course of his lifetime, his incendiary live performances in gigs such as Woodstock helped to establish the star as a musical icon.
Earlier this year, a host of musicians participated in the Experience Hendrix tour, which travelled across the US and Canada.
The likes of Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Ernie Isley and Kenny Wayne Shepherd all took part in the gigs, which celebrated the music and legacy of Hendrix.
