Jimi Hendrix named as greatest guitar player

Jimi Hendrix has been named as the best guitar player of all time by Gibson.
The musical instrument manufacturer has been running a countdown of the 50 best guitarists during this week, revealing the top ten today (May 28th 2010).
Hendrix took the top spot, with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page in second and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones in third.
Other musicians to make the top ten included Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen.
According to Gibson, Hendrix was a revolutionary electric guitar player who changed rock 'n' roll with his fusion of blues and rock.
"Never has a guitar player appeared so 'at one' with his instrument – his live shows were more out-of-body experiences than performances," it said.
Other acts which featured further down the list include Angus Young of AC/DC, Neil Young and Les Paul, while Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien of Radiohead were jointly awarded 28th position.
