Jimi Hendrix 'is the greatest ever guitar player'
Posted on 9th Mar 2010 16:45 to category Music News
Jimi Hendrix has been hailed as the greatest electric guitar player in music history.
According to Lenny Vowels of 411mania.com, there is no question as to whether Hendrix deserves the title of the best guitarist ever.
"His ability, soulful songwriting and stage presence rank him among the elite musicians of all time," he commented.
Vowels singled out his legendary performance of The Star-Spangled Banner at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 as one particularly noteworthy moment, along with the time he set his guitar on fire.
Hendrix died in 1970 at the age of 27, but interest in his music remains strong today.
Indeed, a new album of previously unreleased studio recordings called Valleys of Neptune has just been released.
This features unheard original material, cover versions and alternate takes of classic Hendrix songs such as Stone Free.
The record has won largely positive reviews from the media, with Neil McCormick of the Telegraph saying he enjoyed every minute of it.
