Jimi Hendrix hailed as Flying V legend
MusicRadar identified the late musician as a "legend of pointiness", because he often chose to play a Gibson Flying V, both on stage and in the studio.
According to the website, he owned three of the electric guitars, including one that was handpainted with a psychedelic design very much influenced by the mood of the times.
MusicRadar added that some experts believe one of these Gibson Flying Vs is behind the distinctive sound on his cover of Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower.
Whereas Dylan's original version - which appeared on his John Wesley Harding album - was a folk-flavoured acoustic number, Hendrix cranked up his guitar amp to turn the song into a much heavier rock song.
Dylan himself has credited Hendrix with improving upon his version and has often performed the song in this alternative style ever since.
