Jimi Hendrix Fender guitar sells for $180,000 at auction

A Fender guitar used by musical legend Jimi Hendrix has been sold at an auction in the US for $180,000 (£119,500).
The Fender instrument was part of a collection of rock 'n' roll memorabilia up for grabs at the sale, which took place in Julien's Auctions at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
Among the other items available to collectors at the auction were Prince's handwritten lyrics for Purple Rain ? which fetched $67,650 ? and a lock of hair from Elvis Presley, which was sold for $20,000, reports BBC News.
The highest-price paid for an item was $190,000, which was spent on a crystal-studded glove worn by Michael Jackson during his 1984 Victory tour.
Earlier this year, Hendrix was named as the greatest guitar player of all time in a countdown carried out by the Gibson website.
It named the star ahead of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin in second place and the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards in third.
