Jethro Tull flautist 'started on electric guitar'
Posted on 10 Dec 2009 12:07 to category : Instruments News

Flute player and Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson has revealed that he used to play the electric guitar.
Anderson has became synonymous with the flute thanks to his 40 years in the veteran rock band, which has notched up hits such as Love Story and Living in the Past.
However, he told the Prague Post that he did not in fact start out playing this instrument and played an electric guitar instead.
Anderson said he made the switch after realising that he was not very good at guitar, although he still had the guitar in mind when playing the woodwind instrument.
"The solos I played were the kind of thing I would have played on the guitar," he commented.
"It was a pretty direct translation."
Anderson added that this is the reason why his flute playing is so distinctive and unlike other musicians.
Jethro Tull fans will be able to see the band on a UK tour next year, which takes in locations such as Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Aberdeen.
