Jeff Beck describes Les Paul as a 'guitar messenger'
Posted on 20 May 2010 10:22 to category : Music News

Jeff Beck has praised electric guitar innovator Les Paul as a "messenger" for the world of music.
Beck is set to play two tribute shows dedicated to Paul in New York next month and he told the Gibson website that the musician was an influence on him ever since he first heard one of his tracks as a young boy.
He stated that Paul used a "revolutionary tone" when playing the guitar, as well as being the first to employ a slap echo effect, while he was also influenced by musicians such as Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt.
Beck stated: "He applied some of their triplet runs and what they call 'pull-offs', where you flick your fingers over the first three strings and it sounds very impressive."
Earlier this week, Beck told Spinner that having the chance to collaborate with Paul had been an "amazing thrill" for him that was comparable with his work with the likes of Stevie Wonder and Roger Waters.
