Jeff Beck: The Fender Strat has the power to be an operatic instrument

Electric guitar legend Jeff Beck has revealed it is his intention to showcase the musical power of his Fender Stratocaster on his new album, Emotion and Connection.
Several of the tracks on the record are made up of Beck playing the guitar with the support of a full backing orchestra and the musician told Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to show people the Fender Stratocaster can be used as an operatic vocal instrument.
"The Strat has the potential to be a voice," Beck said. "We were going to call the album The Voice."
He added that the idea got changed for something slightly more obvious.
"I was thinking, 'Well, the album has a lot of emotion. But what about the heavy stuff? Well that's a bit of commotion,'" he explained.
The record is set to be released on April 13th 2010 and contains covers of songs such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I Put Spell on You.
