Jeff Beck: Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing hit me like an earthquake
Electric guitar legend Jeff Beck has revealed he was stunned by the musical ability of Jimi Hendrix when he first saw him play.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Beck, who began his career in the 1960s in The Yardbirds, said that Hendrix took guitar playing to a whole new level.
"The thing I noticed when I saw him was not only his amazing blues but his physical assault on the guitar," Beck stated.
"He hit me like an earthquake when he arrived."
Beck also recalled the occasion that he turned down an invitation to join The Rolling Stones in the 1970s.
The electric guitar player explained that he was getting into heavier music during that period and would have found playing in the band too "quaint".
Last month, Beck told Rolling Stone magazine that he used his Fender Stratocaster as an operatic instrument in his latest album, Emotion and Commotion.Posted on 1 Apr 2010 10:00 to category : Instruments News
