Musical instruments are being use to help improve relations between the US and Pakistan.

At a time when the relationship between the two nations is at a low, it is hoped that performances by the Ari Roland Jazz Quartet will help generate good will.

The shows are part of an effort to step up cultural events in Pakistan and come hot on the heels of a staging of The Odd Couple. Performances by a country rock band and a hip hop group will follow, reports AFP.

Ari Roland features a double bass player, two saxophone players and a drummer, who play hits such as What a Wonderful World and Summertime.

At their Pakistan performance, they also embraced local musical instruments such as the tabla.

In the spirit of international relations, the band recorded a 'friendship' song with Pakistani rock group Fuzon.

Mark Davidson, a senior public affairs official at the US Embassy, told AFP the track is "something that I think will guide us as we go forward and something that I hope will provide a path for Americans and Pakistanis to continue working together and creating wonderful things together".
