Jay-Z's festival challenge
Posted on 14 Apr 2010 07:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Jay-Z admitted headlining festivals is a "challenge".
The '99 Problems' rapper took to the main stage at Glastonbury in 2008 and was recently announced as the big performer at this year's Coachella festival - but admits he finds such large crowds a huge task.
He said: "At festivals, some people are there to see you, some people are there to see the act before you, some people have no idea who you are. So how do you take that audience of all those different people and make them focus on one point? That's the challenge."
When it was announced the hip-hop mogul would be headlining Glastonbury it was met with a lot of criticism, as many felt the festival was straying from its rock roots.
Talking about the reaction, he said: "That was the old guard standing in the way, saying, 'This is rock music. This is sacred.' It was one of those hurdles we had to break down.
"It felt like we were invading a country, I thought, 'Whoa. There's a lot of people out there.' I had never played before that many people in my life. 'What did we just do? This had better work.' "
However, Jay-Z's fears were unconfirmed as his performance went down a storm with the Glastonbury crowd.
