Jay Z's 40/40 Club at centre of protest storm

Jay Z's New York club is at the centre of a dispute over pay and working standards.

He might still be reeling with the news that he's going to be a dad for the first time, but that hasn't stopped Jay Z from promoting his new album with Kanye West or having to deal with the day-to-deal hassle of being a consummate businessman. The hip hop megastar is currently renovating his New York 40/40 Club, which has been met with protests over the alleged poor standards of work and pay for those involved in the restoration. The New York City District Council of Carpenters have responded in outlandish fashion, erecting a giant inflatable rats outside of the club, claiming that Conelle Construction Corp, which has been hired to do the work, "does not meet labour standards" and that workers are being paid a "substandard wage". However, a spokesperson told the gossip sit TMZ.com that as a "non-union" building, they are not required to use union contractors. The spokesman went on to say that things have got so ugly, that some of the protestors have allegedly been hurling racist slurs at some of the workers. Last week Beyonce revealed she was pregnant saying that she wanted "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me".
