Jarvis Cocker's Christie collaboration
Posted on 20 Jul 2010 16:30 to category : Music News

Jarvis Cocker is to feature on Tony Christie's new album.
The former Pulp frontman and the singer - who both hail from Sheffield, North England - will collaborate to rework the theme from classic British gangster movie 'Get Carter', which starred Sir Michael Caine, to feature on Christie's upcoming LP 'Now Is The Time'.
The record - which is a follow-up to his critically acclaimed 'Made in Sheffield' album - will be the first release from the 67-year-old musician on the Acid Jazz label and also features collaborations with former Moloko singer Roisin Murphy, as well as other artists who have yet to be named.
Acid Jazz boss Eddie Piller said in a statement: "The massive success of 'Is This The Way To Amarillo' a few years ago cemented Tony Christie's iconic status, he's put down some killer tunes.
"The spread on the album is amazing, quite filmic but with some nods to Johnny Cash, spaghetti westerns and a classic soul sound."
This isn't the first time the pop veteran has teamed up with a more contemporary artist - in 2008, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner featured on his 'Made in Sheffield' album for a cover of the band's 'Only Ones Who Knew' track.
