Jack Johnson 'gets songwriting inspiration while surfing'
Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson has revealed that surfing provides him with invaluable inspiration for producing songs.
The US soft rock musician, who is perhaps as famous for his love of surfing as he is for writing songs for the acoustic guitar, said some of his best material is conceived while on the waves.
"Quite often things do come to me when I'm out in the water," he told Gibson.com.
"The trouble is that I can't remember too much without having a guitar on the surfboard with me."
Johnson added that many times his surfing sessions are cut short because he has to rush to the shore to find a guitar or piano to jot down song ideas before he forgets them.
The singer, who has to surf at least every four to five days, said riding the crest of a wave is very similar to performing on stage in terms of the adrenaline rush it produces, although he believes the ocean is much more a place of solitude.
Johnson is currently on tour, with the New Zealand leg of his series of global concert dates scheduled for the end of November.
