Isobel Campbell 'spent early 20s writing songs on guitar'
Singer-songwriter Isobel Campbell has said she spent most of her early 20s playing the guitar rather than going out.
Speaking to the Guardian, the former Belle & Sebastian star explained that she was in her late teens before she started writing music seriously after being inspired by the examples of local bands such as Teenage Fanclub and the Pastels.
"I lived at home until I was 23 and I'd stay in when everyone else went out and play the guitar and sing as loud as I could," she recalled.
Campbell did not have to wait long for success, as Belle & Sebastian soon became successful, with their breakthrough album The Boy With the Arab Strap containing many of her earliest songs.
Since leaving the indie band, Campbell has struck up a successful musical partnership with Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan and the pair's latest album Hawk was released earlier this year.
