Isle of Wight Festival taking steps to avoid repeat of 2012 floods

The festival was besieged with heavy rain causing flooding across the campsite and arena in 2012.

Organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival are taking significant steps to ensure there is not a repeat of last year's devastating floods.

The 2012 event was hit by adverse weather conditions including high winds and torrential rain meaning that many people were left queuing for hours to enter the site and some were even stranded on ferries.

However, organiser John Giddings told NME.com that they are taking a series of precautions to ensure that these scenes are not repeated this year.

Giddings told the news provider: "I'm excited about the fact that I've expanded the car parks and created some proper roads into the entrances and exits so I can never have a repeat of what happened last year where it was so wet and the car park entrances collapsed."

He added that last year experienced a month's worth of rain in 12 hours, catching the festival totally off guard, but that this will not be a problem in 2013.

This year's Isle of Wight Festival will be headlined by The Stone Roses, The Killers and Bon Jovi while acts such as Emeli Sande, The Script, Blondie and Bloc Party will also be appearing.
