Isle of Man children encouraged to play musical instruments
Posted on 22 Jul 2010 16:11 to category : Instruments News

More children on the Isle of Man are set to pick up musical instruments as a result of a new initiative.
A pilot scheme is being run at four primary schools, with plans to extend it throughout the rest of the island should the trial stage prove to be successful, reports Isle of Man Today.
The project has seen the participating schools being visited by a tuba quarter from Royal Northern College of Music, as well as attending performances by the Manx Youth Orchestra.
As part of the initiative, the children will be given a chance to try their hand on a range of musical instruments, with pupils from Laxey Primary School learning the ukulele and those from Onchan Primary School trying out African drumming.
Earlier this week, research carried out at the Northwestern University of Illinois revealed that playing a musical instrument can improve a child's performance in a variety of school subjects.
