Posted on 14th Oct 2009 19:00 to category Music News
Fans of electric and acoustic guitars are currently enjoying a celebration of their favourite instruments.
The International Guitar Festival North East is being staged at a number of venues in the Newcastle and Gateshead area to showcase the guitar's versatility.
Guitar workshops will be on offer to keen learners over the next three days, while 29 musicians from six different countries will be performing live.
This will allow visitors to enjoy a number of different genres, including blues, jazz, classical and flamenco.
Tom Kerstens, artistic director of the International Guitar Foundation, commented: "The festival has become more popular every year."
Speaking to the Journal, he said: "This time we will be playing in different venues.
"It's all about trying to reach a wider audience."
He flagged up the blues sessions at The Cluny in Newcastle as one of the likely highlights of the event, as well as Cuban jazz guitarist Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas.
