Indie music scene hit by UK riots
The independent music industry has become a victim of the riots that have engulfed London and other cities in the UK.
A warehouse that stored large amounts of stock for some of the UK's leading independent record labels was torched and destroyed by out-of-control vandals caught up in the fever of civil unrest.
The three-storey building belonged to PIAS distribution, which handles releases from Big Brother, Defected, Sunday Best, XL Recordings, Beggars, Wall of Sound and Warped.
The record labels took to social networking sites to air their sadness about the reckless disregard for other people's property.
Rob Da Bank, a prominent BBC DJ, posted on Twitter: "So it looks like our Sunday Best stock has gone up in flames last night at the PIAS blaze."
It hasn't been established how much damage has been done to stock, but many insiders involved in the independent music scene see this as a bitter "below-the-belt" blow that could damage an already dwindling sector.
Riots have broken out across London and the rest of the UK following the death of Mark Duggan who was shot by police officers.
What started out as a peaceful protest has since descended into anarchy, the likes of which have not been seen in the UK for over quarter of a century.
