Iggy Pop pays tribute to The Stooges' electric guitar player
Iggy Pop led a tribute show for the late electric guitar player of his band The Stooges.
Earlier this week (April 19th 2011), a gig was held in Michigan to honour Ron Asheton's life and saw a number of musicians perform on stage to commemorate the guitarist.
Asheton died at his home in January 2009 aged 60 of a suspected heart attack.
He was one of the founder members of The Stooges along with Iggy Pop.
Speaking with the crowd, Asheton's bandmate said: "I need to thank Ron. He sort of peed this beautiful music all over me. When I started a band Ron was the first guy who got behind me. I owe him."
The Stooges went on to perform a new song entitled Ron's Tune in honour of their late guitarist.
Not long after his death, Asheton received praise from the Sex Pistols' bassist Glen Matlock, who told NME that that it is a "real sad loss", going on to hail his impressive abilities as a guitar player and a member of the 1960s punk rock band.
