Herbie Hancock shows no sign of slowing down in musical innovation as the legendary piano player is embracing technology in his live shows.

The renowned musician, whose career has spanned an amazing five decades, is to play what is being dubbed as a "piano plus" show in Naperville, Illinois.

Speaking to the Herald News, he said: "The reason I decided to do it is because it's not just acoustic piano.

"I'm also bringing a synthesiser and my iMac computer with music software on it that I’ll be able to integrate and build accompaniments and backgrounds and all kinds of things I’ll be able to manipulate and add to what I do on the acoustic piano and also do things where I won’t be using the acoustic piano."

He added that this was solo with keyboards, "piano and technology".

For diehard traditionalists, the star will play pieces without the technological accompaniments.

Hancock has won 12 Grammy Awards.

Jazz legend Miles Davis once said: "Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Theloniuos Monk, and I haven't heard anybody yet who has come after him."
