Hendrix named as Woodstock highlight
Jimi Hendrix's incendiary performance of The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock in 1969 has been named as one of the greatest moments of the event.
"It was his unrehearsed, unrefined Monday morning guitar solo that defined the concert, if not an entire era," it commented.
Gibson noted that Hendrix performed a "screaming, feedback-drenched" version of the US national anthem.
The electric guitar manufacturer added that it is difficult today to imagine how much controversy this caused, as it was widely seen as a criticism of the US' involvement in Vietnam.
Gibson also commended the performances of many other acts at Woodstock, including Creedence Clearwater Revival.
The band, fronted by John Fogerty, were praised for delivering "furious" electric guitar solos and primitive rhythms on their cover of I Put A Spell On You.Posted on 13 Aug 2009 15:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
