Harp player off on a cruise of a lifetime
A talented harp player is setting off on the cruise of a lifetime that will see her achieve two of her life's ambitions.
Rebecca Mills, from Cleadon in South Tyneside, is embarking on a four-month cruise aboard the Queen Mary II, where she will be strumming her music instrument to passengers, reported the Shields Gazette.
Ms Mills, 23, has always dreamed of travelling the world and after many years of perfecting her skills on the harp, has also dreamed of becoming a professional musician.
Now with the unique opportunity aboard the cruise, she has managed to do just that in one go.
Speaking to the newspaper, she said: "This is such a dream come true – I’ve always wanted to see the world and to be a professional musician, and now I can do both.
"I've been away from home a lot because I went to boarding school, so it won’t be too hard to be away from home."
The talented musician recently graduated with a degree in Harp Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
She fell in love with the music instrument at the age of 13 when she became hooked on the Marx Brothers movies from the 1920s.
The harp is a distinct stringed instrument. It has 45 strings stretched across a triangular frame with pedals at the bottom to adjust the length of the string, which helps produce additional notes.
