Guitarist Noel Gallagher quits Oasis
Oasis, the leading British guitar band of the last 15 years, look to be over after Noel Gallagher announced he was leaving the group.
The band's lead guitarist and main songwriter quit following another bust-up with his brother Liam ahead of a scheduled show at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris on Friday.
Noel and singer Liam have been involved in a series of disagreements since the older Gallagher brother joined Oasis in 1991 and it was recently claimed they had not spoken for months, despite the band being on tour for the past year.
It appears the latest row was the final straw for Noel, who claimed he had been the victim of "verbal and violent intimidation".
In a statement released via the band's website, he added: "The last 18 years have been truly, truly amazing (and I hate that word, but today is the one time I'll deem it appropriate). A dream come true. I take with me glorious memories."
Oasis shot to fame in 1994 when their debut album Definitely Maybe reached the top of the UK album charts. All six of their other studio albums matched the feat, including (What's the Story) Morning Glory, which is one of the top five selling albums of all time in the UK.
At the height of the band's fame in the 1990s Epiphone released the Supernova electric guitar, named after the Oasis song Champagne Supernova and based on the customised Epiphone Sheraton used by Noel.Posted on 1 Sep 2009 07:26 to category : Band / Celebrity News
