Guitar case 'a good idea for touring musicians'

Buying a guitar case is a good idea for musicians heading on tour.

Electric guitar players whose bands are about to head out on the road would be well-advised to purchase a guitar case and keep their instrument protected.

This is the advice of Gruhn's vintage guitar shop owners George Gruhn and Walter Carter, who told the Gibson website that guitars can get damaged in several ways during a tour.

They explained that purchasing a guitar case can be a good starting point for protecting the instrument, with the right choice of bag depending on how the instrument is being transported.

"If you're hitting the road in a car or a van and will be toting your own instrument around, a standard hardshell case will serve your purposes," it was recommended.

But for those leaving a roadie in charge of the electric guitar, it was suggested that a road case may be a better idea.

Last month, Deborah Annetts, the chief executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, told the Guardian that 30 per cent of people aged between 18 and 24 are currently playing a musical instrument or singing, with a further 40 per cent wanting to take up one of the activities.
