Guitar bands in short supply on US best-selling artists list
Posted on 17 Dec 2009 13:53 to category : Band / Celebrity News

The declining influence of guitar bands on the US music scene has been made clear by Billboard's end of decade charts.
Only one guitar band, Nickelback, made it into a top ten artists of the decade chart dominated by hip-hop and R'n'B acts.
The chart, compiled using sales figures from the Billboard album and singles charts, was topped by Eminem, with Usher and Nelly also making the top three.
Beyonce was placed fourth and Yamaha piano-playing singer-songwriter Alicia Keys completed the top five.
The top-selling album of the decade chart told a similar story, with the sound of a synthesizer or drum machine much more likely to be heard in the upper echelons than an electric guitar.
'N Sync's No Strings Attached beat Usher's Confessions to the number one spot, with The Eminem Show rounding out the top three.
Rock band Creed were fifth with Human Clay, while a compilation album by The Beatles made eighth place and Supernatural by Santana was ninth.
