Green Day get out guitars for American Idiot musical farewell show
Green Day got out their guitars earlier this week for a special farewell concert to mark the final night of the American Idiot musical.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and his bandmates took to the stage following the show at the St James Theatre on Broadway to play ten of their hits for the crowd.
The cast of the musical, which is a one-act show featuring the US band's tracks, joined the group onstage throughout the show.
As well as picking up his guitar for the concert, Billie Joe returned to the lead role in American Idiot for the final three-week run having originally left the part in February.
American Idiot's Broadway run may have come to an end, but the show will go on as part of national tour which kicks off in December this year.
Plans to take the show to Europe, Asia and Australia are also under consideration.
The musical was first staged in March last year and has since gone on to win two Tonys for its scenic and lighting design as well as being nominated for the Best Musical gong.
It has also received the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
