Glen Campbell announces he has Alzheimer’s disease
The multi-award winning country musician Glen Campbell has announced that he was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Campbell decided to reveal the news to the public because it has already begun to affect his performances and he wanted fans to understand why.
In a candid interview with People magazine, which was conducted along with his loyal wife Kim, the 75-year-old musician explained that he was diagnosed with the degenerative brain condition six months ago.
The guitar player said that he had been suffering from short-term memory loss for years.
Kim told the magazine: "Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer, but if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn’t want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?'"
Campbell, whose hits include Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman, also announced that he would deliver one more UK tour as a farewell to his British fans.
There are 15 dates booked in October and November at venues including the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Nottingham Concert Hall Newcastle City Hall, Southend Cliffs Pavilion and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
His final ever studio album, Ghost On The Canvas, will be released on August 29th 2011.
