Ginger Baker reveals how he started drumming
Ginger Baker has revealed that he was able to play the drum kit at his very first attempt.
According to the Cream legend, he was always tapping and banging away at various objects when he was younger.
Baker said he would also keep a close eye on the drummer whenever he watched a band playing live in order to pick up a few tips.
His first opportunity to play an actual drum kit came when a band played at a party he attended, where all the people with him told him to have a go.
Baker was able to hold down a steady beat straight away, much to the amazement of the musicians in the room.
"I'd never sat behind a kit before, but I sat down and I could play," he commented.
Baker went on to achieve international fame with Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton in Cream, scoring hits such as I Feel Free, Strange Brew, Badge and White Room.Posted on 13 Nov 2009 13:00 to category : Instruments News
