Gibson praises electric guitar legend Hendrix
Posted on 15th Sep 2009 16:00 to category Band / Celebrity News
Gibson has named Jimi Hendrix as the greatest electric guitar player in rock history.
According to the manufacturer, the late musician's innovations and accomplishments have still not been matched by any other rock star.
Indeed, his experimentation with volume, feedback and guitar effects were said to have changed the "reference points" for all electric guitar players.
Gibson identified his track Purple Haze as a particularly significant record, crediting it with inspiring future revolutions in hard rock and metal.
The instrument manufacturer said the song features some highly ambitious overdubbing and tape manipulation, including heavily layered and reversed electric guitars.
In addition, it described the track's introduction as one of the heaviest riffs that had ever been recorded at that time.
Gibson commented: "The original guitar hero's guitar hero was driven to expand his creative palette."
The company added that "reliable sources" such as Pete Townshend of The Who and Eric Clapton from Cream are among those to have described Hendrix as the greatest rock guitarist of all time.
