Gibson hails popularity of SGs with stars
The company trawled the archives to find quotes from a number of top rockers about their love of the instruments.
This included a comment from AC/DC guitarist Angus Young, who said he is able to do plenty of tricks on a Gibson SG.
Robby Krieger of The Doors was also quoted as saying that the look of the electric guitar, as well as the number of frets, appealed to him considerably in the early days of the band.
The musician added that while he could have had his pick of any instrument in subsequent years, he stuck with the Gibson SG because he "loved the way it sounded".
Indeed, it is this instrument that appears on Doors classics such as Love Her Madly, Touch Me, Light My Fire and Roadhouse Blues.
Krieger's endorsement of the brand was then cited by Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd as one of the reasons he began using SGs himself.
