Gibson chief pays tribute to Herb Ellis
A tribute has been paid to legendary jazz musician Herb Ellis by the chairman and chief executive officer of Gibson.
Henry Juszkiewicz, the head of the instrument manufacturer, said that Ellis, who died late last month (March 28th 2010) at the age of 88, was a musical great.
Ellis' career started in the 1940s and he worked with the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong during his time in the music industry.
Neil Portnow, president and chief executive officer of The Recording Academy, paid a further tribute to the guitar player.
He told the Gibson website: "The jazz world has lost a great musician."
An obituary of Ellis in the Daily Telegraph described the musician as "universally admired by other guitarists", especially for his work in the much-acclaimed Oscar Peterson Trio.Posted on 6 Apr 2010 16:10 to category : Music News
