Gibson SG 'loved by top musicians'
Many of the world's most famous musicians have played Gibson SGs during the musical instrument's 50-year history.
To mark the anniversary of the SG's creation this year, Gibson Lifestyle blog contributor Michael Leonard has come up with 50 interesting facts about the guitar.
He said it is notable how many stars have used the instrument over the years.
Jimi Hendrix, Dave Grohl and Lenny Kravitz have all played the three-pickup Gibson SG Custom in the past, while Beatles stars John Lennon and George Harrison employed models of the electric guitar when they were part of the legendary band.
Others to perform on Gibson SGs include Eric Clapton, Johnny Marr and Angus Young, while Prince Charles has even been known to pick up an SG.
"During a 2002 visit to young volunteers involved in a Wales project helped by his charity organisation, The Prince's Trust, Charles strummed on an SG borrowed from a band that had formed on a Prince's Trust music course," Mr Leonard explained.
Among the custom models of the instrument that have been manufactured is the Robby Krieger SG, which was inspired by The Doors star.
