Gibson SG anniversary to be celebrated with new models
It is to launch a new model on a monthly basis in tribute to the instrument, with each of the designs paying homage to either a classic SG or one of the famous artists who made played it.
The first of the tribute products to be launched by the company is the Gibson SG Standard 24.
"With two PAF-style 57 Classic humbuckers and 24 frets to do your dirty work, it's the perfect little firecracker to kick off this massive celebration," said a statement on the manufacturer's website.
The SG electric guitar has been used by the likes of Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi and Pete Townshend since its invention in 1961.
When it was first created by Gibson, the SG represented a radical new look for the solidbody electric guitar, coming with a thin, double-cutaway design.
The company has previously created a custom model of the musical instrument for AC/DC star Angus Young.
It was manufactured to combine the traditional look, feel and sound of the models, while also embodying the specification of his own '68 SG.
