Gibson Les Paul awarded to surfing champion
Posted on 3rd Sep 2010 14:33 to category Instruments News
A Gibson Les Paul guitar was the special prize for the winner of this year's Quiksilver British National Surfing Championships.
Johnny Fryer was presented with the musical instrument after beating the likes of Jayce Robinson and Oli Adams to claim the 2010 crown.
The event took place over the August bank holiday weekend at Fistral Beach in Newquay and the Gibson Guitar tour bus was on site to act as a media hub and a relaxation zone for surfers.
A host of bands also played on the bus, with The Last of the Pilots walking away with £1,000 worth of Quiksilver gear after being judged to have given the best performance over the weekend.
Earlier this week, Don Felder from The Eagles explained that he had used a 1959 Les Paul Standard in the recording of the group's seminal Hotel California record.
A special edition version of that guitar has recently been released by Gibson.
