Gibson Flying V hailed for advanced design
Posted on 30 Jun 2009 11:13 to category : Instruments News
The Gibson Flying V has been commended by its manufacturer for its pioneering design and unusual shape.

However, Gibson noted that unlike models such as the Les Paul and the SG, the Flying V did not take off immediately.
Indeed, the firm said it may have been too far ahead of its time when it was first created in 1958, as it only acquired a substantial fanbase in later years.
This could be partly due its popularity with a number of rock musicians, such as Marc Bolan of T-Rex and Dave Davies of The Kinks.
Gibson described the failure of the electric guitar fraternity to accept the Flying V at the time of its original production run as a mistake.
In fact, the firm compared its poor judgement with the decision by Decca to reject a little-known band called The Beatles at an audition in 1962.
