Gibson Amphitheatre set for closure

The iconic Californian concert venue to be replaced by a new Harry Potter attraction.

The Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles is set to close its doors in September to make way for a new attraction, according to Live Nation.

Situated in the heart of Universal Studios the entertainment complex will be shut to be replaced by 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter' attraction, which is being made possible following a major redevelopment of the theme park in California.

A host of major acts have played at the indoor venue since its remodelling from an outdoor facility in 1982. The likes of Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, No Doubt and One Direction have graced its stage and it has been a regular home for events such as the MTV Movie Awards and the Teen Choice Awards.

Bret Gallagher of Live Southern California/Las Vegas said in a statement: "It is a tremendous venue with a uniquely intimate setting that has made it a very special place for fans and artists alike. The list of musicians that have played here is simply staggering."

A Harry Potter attraction has already been making great waves at the Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, Florida and park owners are looking to bring this ride to California.
