George Harrison electric guitar sold
The Fab Four legend, who passed away in 2001 after a battle with lung cancer, had donated the music instrument to the former book company, which went out of business last year.
Jim Shaw, a consultant for liquidator Gordon Brothers Group LL, said: "This guitar was a gift to Borders Books from George Harrison and comes with a custom, lighted two-door lockable cabinet.
"The guitar was displayed in the Borders corporate office lobby for many years, but due to the bankruptcy, it is now offered up for auction."
Harrison was recently the subject of a Martin Scorsese documentary.
Entitled George Harrison: Living in the Material World, the film paints a new portrait of the Beatles guitarist dubbed "the quiet one".
